Course objectives
The course will contribute to the educational objectives of the Biotechnology and Chemical Sciences in Diagnostics programme and is organised in two modules:
- Course A aims to provide students with the basic concepts of Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery
- Course B focuses on the use of in-silico tools to deepen the concepts developed in Course A

Results of learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Acquisition of theorietical an applicative skills concerning Medicinal Chemistry principles
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Development of the ability to incorporate information from the study of 3D structures of molecules and from information obtained from servers specialised in the prediction of ADME-Tox properties into daily research work
MAKING JUDGEMENTS
- Critical evaluation of the information obtained from 3D and web server abalysis
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Acquisition of oral and written communication of results as well as the ability to use graphical language
LEARNING SKILLS
- Acquisition of autonomous learning capacity and self-assessment of its preparation
At the end of the course, students should be able to have learned the various stages that make up the pipeline of drug discovery and understand the chemical and physical properties of the molecules in the pharmaceutical field. Students will build a chemical understanding of the role of drugs, diagnostic agents and nanosystems.
