Course objectives
Extracellualr vesicles are cell-released vesicles present in body fluids, and their cargo reflects the pathophysiological state of the cells. The course will present the current knowledge on EV charaterization and use for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, and the main technical approaches. Moreover, it will provide knowledge on vesicle engineering to modify cargo and targeting properties. The goal is to give the students the basic knowledge to start working on projects involving the isolation and characterization of nanovesicles. This topic is of increasing interest for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in academia, pharmaceutical and industry sectors.

Results of learning outcomes
The student will gain knowledge and technical skills on extracellular vesicle in diagnostic and in therapeutic application, with a focus on regenerative medicine.
Results of learning outcomes
The student will gain knowledge and technical skills on extracellular vesicle in diagnostic and in therapeutic application, with a focus on regenerative medicine. In particular, students will be able to:
- Understand the biological processes involved in vesicle generation, release and uptake.
- Learn the main techniques that can be used for pre-clinical studies involving vesicles.
- Apply the main isolation and characterization techniques.
- Critically evaluate papers describing the use of engineered vesicles in pre-clinical studies.
- Prepare and explain a presentation on one or more scientific papers involving the use of vesicles for regenerative medicine.
